Azerbaijan Eurovision Odds
Azerbaijan sends Diana Hajiyeva 2017 to Kiev . The state TV broadcaster Ictimai announced this in December. The 27-year-old is better known by her artist name Dihaj and knows the ESC very well. She was a backing vocalist in Samra Rahimli that reached last year with "Miracle" the 17th place. As a solo artist, Hajiyeva was defeated by the winners Ell / Nikki in the national competition in 2011 .
Dihaj will arrive in Kiev with the title ”Skeletons”. Very electronic, it is a melancholic ballad and very aerial. The voice of the singer alternates between sweetness, emotions and rise of power. One finds on the refrain of the choruses, giving the title a more epic scope. Resolutely modern, the title can make think at times the spirit of the title.
Behind "Skeletons" it is being hiden a successful production: the song is written and composed by famous Azerbaijani producer Isa Melikov that, with its BMF (Baku Music Factory) led the Eurovision duo Aysel and Arash (third in 2009) and "Running Scared" by Ell & Nikki , song winner of the 2011 European festival, which has assured Azerbaijan organize the event the following year, in Baku.
Along with Isa Melikov also the Swedish Sandra Bjurman - already collaborator for the realization of " Running Scared" - who wrote the successful entry "Tick Tock" for Ukraine (sixth place at Eurovision 2014), but also the author of several other Azeri pieces for the European event, as "Drip Drop" by Safura and "Hour of the Wolf" of Elnur Huseynov.
"Skeletons" is a proposal that is quite liked by the Eurovision fans and fans of the festival that have placed Dihaj among the favorites to win this year's competition. The accompanying music video is dark and creepy, as Dihaj realises she has the ability of x-ray vision. Only, it seems to work on her hands and not anywhere else. She manages to see the bones in her hands, up to her wrists. She constantly looks at her hands throughout the video.
As the lead singer of Dihaj, Diana has performed at numerous music festivals including ”Women in Paradise” in Amsterdam, the ”Tbilisi Open Air” and ”AlterVision” concerts in Georgia and ”Kulturos Naktis” in Lithuania.
Already as a child, Hajiyeva has received music lessons, among others at the piano.Later, she attended the music academy in Baku, where she graduated as a choral director. During her training she worked with Elnur Huseynov , who represented Azerbaijan at the ESCin 2008 and 2015. Hajiyeva sings, writes and produces songs as a solo artist, but is also a member of a band.
After graduating from Baku Music Academy in 2010 she moved on to the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in London. While in the UK, Diana got involved with the local underground music scene by singing in a progressive trance trio called Looper & Mancus. Around that time, she decided to launch her own band.
