Eurovision 2017 Armenia Odds
Armenia has quite the long national selection process, containing several auditions, various fierce duels and three live shows; it’s clear Armenia’s “Depi Evratesil” selection procedure is designed to get the best representative for Eurovision. In this case, Artsvik won the competition on 24 December 2016.
Artsvik will be performing the song ”Fly with Me” at the Eurovision Song Contest. The track was composed by Lilith Navasardyan, Levon Navasardyan and they lyrics were written by Avet Barseghyan and David Tserunyan.
According to Armenian broadcaster AMPTV, hundreds of performers from around the world entered as well as artists living in Armenia. The acts were shortlisted for the live shows of the ground-breaking format, which have been running since October, where they performed in front of the juries. The show, which was largely inspired by "The Voice," even featured some of the fabulous show talents like the diabolic Alexander Plato, even though in the final two musicians could meet: Marta and Artsvik were each given an international and an Armenian hit before the jury and the audience had to decide for one of the two.
In the vote, another Armenian-born artist demonstrated his talent: Hovig Demirjian, who is Cyprus’ participant for Kiev 2017. In the end, judges (62 per cent) and viewers (80 per cent) decided relatively clearly for the Artsvik.
”Fly with me” was composed by Lilith and Levon Navasardyan, who are known to Eurovision fans for Aram MP3’s ”Not alone”, Mika’s ”Love” and Iveta Mukuchyan’s ”LoveWave”. Lyrics were written by Avet Barseghyan and David Tserunyan. Both the music and lyrics were inspired by this year’s slogan ”Celebrate Diversity”. Featuring folkand traditional rhythms and elements not only from Armenia, but also from Europe, Africa and even Asia, ”Fly with me” comes to showcase the beauty of diversity and proves that our stories and voices are the vivid colors of this world.
Artsvik says: ”My song tells a story of a girl, who is the metaphorical symbol of love. She embodies the colors, the stories and the voices that make us who we are. ”Fly with me” encourages everyone to come with me on this girl’s journey of championing the diverse and beautiful human nature. I think nowadays it is especially important to embrace our heritage and our traditions. We, the people – our colors, our stories and our voices make up this world. We must neverforget that this girl’s light and love is one for all of us.”
The music video preserves melody line of the song and has stylistically attempted to present various ethnic peculiarities. Thanks to the unique performance and light effects based on the lyrics, the videoclip reflects the sun rays that shine and provide equal warmth to all of us. The official videoclip of ”Fly with me” was directed by Arthur Manukyan, whilst Mkrtich Malkhasyan was the man behind the camerawork and Aram Nikolyan was resposible for the styling.
Artsvik Harutyunyan was born in Kapan, Armenia in 1984. As with so many of her Eurovision counterparts she has ditched the last name to be just Artsvik. The singer rose to fame when she competed in the 2013 series of Golos, the Russian version of The Voice. She joined Pelageya – a Russian folk singer – on her team but was eliminated in the battle rounds.
