Who wins the Premium Liiga 2017?
The 2017 Meistriliiga (known as A. Le Coq Premium Liiga for sponsorship reasons) is the 27th season of the Meistriliiga, the highest division of Estonian football system. The season begins on March 2017 and will end on November 2017. Meistriliiga is consisting of professional, semi-professional and amateur club sides and Estonia’s teams that take part in European leagues always offer a lesson of playing with passion (here would be to mention the excentric owner of Levadia Tallinn who always impress by wearing a traditional sheepskin).
As in most countries with low temperatures in winter time, the season starts in March and ends in November. Meistriliiga consists of ten clubs, all teams play each other four times. After each season the bottom team is relegated and the second last team plays a two-legged playoff for a place in the Meistriliiga.
In February 2013, A. Le Coq, an Estonian brewery company, signed a five-year cooperation agreement with the Estonian Football Association, which included Meistriliiga naming rights.
A total of 10 teams will contest the league. These include 9 teams from the 2016 season and one promoted team from the 2016 Esiliiga.
The 2016 season is one of the most frenzied of the Meistriliiga’s history and also one of the most bitter season from all the European national championships. With only a stage left, 3 teams, which represents a percentage of 30% of the clubs that are taking part in this league, have still chances for the trophy. Infonet Tallin leeds at the moment the league with 77 points. The second place is taken now by Levadia Tallinn with 75 points and a better head-to-head record that keeps them on that position even if Nõmme Kalju has the same amount of points. Flora Tallin is the first one under the podium, but the 2015’s season champion can still catch the 2nd place after the last match of the season. In the last matches of the season, Levadia will play against Flora while Nõmme Kalju will meet Infonet.
Talking about 2017 season, those 4 teams mentioned above will definitely give an amazing battle at the top of the ranking. As usually in the last few years, Flora Tallinn looks to be the favorite as it is the team with the most financial power, but the another 3 teams should not be forgotten because they have always proved that money means nothing when the joy of playing football is present in the middle of their camps. With this exciting battle for the top of Estonian football it is expectable that the football to develop in this Baltic country .
