For the coming Premier League season, the top London club will be the one of these who ends in the best position: Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal, West Ham, Crystal Palace and Watford. We can safely divide those clubs in two batches, where Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal will compete not only for being the best club in London, but also in the entire country.

Chelsea is the current champion, and also, the main candidate for this league also. Managed by Antonio Conte, the team found a tactical style that overwhelmed the competition in the Premier League. A solid defensive block, aided with a combative midfield and lethal strikers were more than enough: defend first, and get advantage of the rival’s disorder. For this season, Conte has a simpler (but not easy) task: to grow on what’s already working. The signings of Alvaro Morata and Thiemoué Bakayoko will fit the Blues’ style perfectly. Morata is an aggressive forward who can also help in the defense when needed. Bakayoko proved himself in the past season with Mónaco as a strong and versatile box-to-box midfielder. The rumored negotiations for the young portuguese midfielder Renato Sanches will also fall in this category. The young promise didn’t found too much play at Bayern Munich and could be useful in Conte’s scheme, where the midfielders have to work on both sides of the field.

Arsene Wénger had difficult times the past season at Arsenal. He managed to “save” the year by winning the FA Cup against Chelsea, but the demands for a Premier League title from the fans is increasing with every season. Everyone knows how Arsenal plays and what the signing policy from Wénger is. Alexandre Lacazette joined from Olympique Lyonnais and will be a key addition. The french forward can play in every zone of the forward line and is a really skillful player, as Wenger usually likes. The rumors surrounding Jean Michaël Seri (the French midfielder from OGC Nice) are growing day by day, but that might be not enough, especially in a zone where Arsenal has a wide number of alternatives. However, the main problem might be with a player that’s already in the team: Alexis Sánchez is in the orbit of several clubs, especially Manchester City. Arsenal always lacked elite players, a problem solved partially by the signings of Alexis Sánchez and Mesut Özil in the past, and if one of them leaves, that might be the main issue for the Gunners.

Finally, Tottenham surprised everyone with a second position in the past league. So far, Mauricio Pochettino didn’t bring any new players to the equation, but it’s just a matter of time for them to arrive. With Tottenham fighting in both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League, the quality and quantity of the squad has to meet the expectations to follow up the incredible performance from the past season. A good performance in the Champions League however might hurt the chances in the Premier League, especially if the team is not prepared for the double competition in the last six months of the competition.
