Following the huge success of Amir, France’s representative in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest, France 2 and France 4 have joined forces once again in 2017. The upcoming young talent Alma will fly the flag for France in Kyiv with her song Requiem which was written and composed by Nazim Khaled.
France 2 says that “after a very competitive selection,” the committee “fell in love with Alma,” who was enthusiastic about participating.
After getting their groove back with an impressive sixth-place finish in Stockholm, France received extra interest from artists for Eurovision 2017. Broadcaster France 2 revealed in December that they received around 300 entries from the public, vying to represent France at Eurovision.
This Lyonnaise 28 years has been chosen by the French artistic committee of Eurovision and France 2 to wear the colors of France at the 62 th edition of Eurovision. The competition will be held in Kiev, Ukraine on 13 May and will be broadcast live on France 2 .
As for her stage performances , in September 2013, Alma sang in public in Lille and on December 1, she joined the singers troupe of the show Les chansons d'abord on France 3 until June. "A brilliant experience and decisive encounters" she confided. At the end of 2016, she played the first part of several concerts by Amir Haddad, France's representative at Eurovision 2016 in Stockholm .
It was in the French capital that she met songwriter Nazim, who has also written for Amir, who finished 6th for France in the Eurovision Song Contest last year. Nazim wrote most of the songs of Alma’s debut album which will be released on 5th May 2017.
“I’m deeply honoured to have been selected to represent my country, France, at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest”, said Alma. “I strongly hope to count on the public’s love and support to deliver the best performance possible”, she added.
On January 13, she unveiled her second single, Requiem , written and composed by Nazim, the "Maker of Success" which notably composed I searched for Amir last year. "In Requiem , she seeks immortal love as the ultimate remedy for death," says Alma's Facebook account. "I hope to count on the support of the public, "said the young singer on Thursday in a statement. With the risk of betting on a 100% French title, in a contest where the English songs are almost systematic, the young woman will have to rely on her vocal qualities and a catchy melody to go as high as possible.
Unlike in previous years where the broadcaster used closed internal selection, this year France 2 accepted entries from the public. Back in September, France 2 opened the public submission period. When contacted by French media, the broadcaster confirmed they had received “around 300” songs.
And like last year, the French broadcaster did some digging of their own, exploring potential options with established artists and record labels.
