Nacionalinė Eurovizijos atranka 2018 Odds

Lithuania will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. The Lithuanian broadcaster LRT televizija (LRT) will organise the national final „Eurovizijos“ dainų konkurso nacionalinė atranka 2018 in order to select the Lithuanian entry for the 2018 contest in Lisbon, Portugal.

Lithuania is the only Baltic country yet to win the Eurovision Song Contest after the victories of Estonia in 2001 and of Latvia in 2002.

No changes are to be made to the Lithuanian national selection voting method; from the very first Eurovizija show, the qualifiers will be determined via a 50/50 combined public and jury vote. Points are given in Eurovision style, with 12 points to the 1st place, 10 points to the 2nd place, 8 points to the 3rd place, etc. Each week, the artist with the least amount of votes will leave the competition. Following the winner announcement, a special support concert will take place which will feature the top 5 of the national selection.

Audrius Giržadas admitted that he has already received numbers of submissions from Swedish agencies, and that he encourages any singer and songwriter in Lithuania to give it a shot. According to the rules from LRT, songwriters from all over the world can submit their titles. The performer(s), though, must be Lithuanian citizen(s).

The purpose of the competition is – of course – to select the best song that will represent Lithuania in Lisbon. As usual, the song must be maximum three minutes long and must not have been released before the 1 September 2017. All the entries meeting the quality standards will advance in the selection.

it has been revealed that over 50 artists have submitted their applications for the contest, whilst over 100 song entries have been received.

Audrius Giržadas, chief producer of LRT TV, was pleased at the amount of young performers who will be competing: “A few years ago, I had noticed the tendency that young performers had been enthralled by the power of the Internet, as if they no longer needed television. But I’m glad that they finally realise that performing on a huge stage in front of all the cameras cannot be compared to anything!

Erica Jennings has already represented  Lithuania at the Eurovision Song Contest with Skamp in 2001. Initially, she had planned two worthy songs but decided to enter the national selection with the Truth, written at the time Erica was waiting for her daughter. Two songs were also presented by Silvija Pankūnaitė, who showed her strong vocals repeatedly in SEL’s concerts, and she too has chosen her strongest song.

Also appearing in the show are returning female performers, Mia, Kotryna Juodzevičiūtė, Rasa Kaušiūtė, Eglė Jakštytė, Donata Virbilaitė, Ieva Zasimauskaitė, Paula and Greta Zazza. On the men’s side there are also well-known performers. The selection will include Vidas Bareikis, Gabrielius Vagelis, Jurgis Brūzga, Robert Kupstas, El Fuego, The Roop, EGO, Solar Closer and many others.
