AFC Asian Cup 2019
Group F

The AFC Asian Cup is an international association football tournament run by the AFC. Where the winning team becomes the champions of Asia and qualifies for the 2021 FIFA Confederation Cup. The 2019 AFC Asian Cup will be the 17th edition of the AFC Asian Cup. This edition will be the first time that 24 teams will participate in the finals instead of 16. The tournament will start on the 5th of January and end on February 1.

The group consists of four teams including four-time Asian Cup winners Japan. The other teams are- Uzbekistan, Oman, and Turkmenistan.

Japan is one of the most successful teams in Asia. They have qualified in all of the last six FIFA World Cups and went past the group stage three times. They almost went through to the Quarter-Finals in the last World Cup in Russia but failed to hold on to their lead against Belgium in the Round of 16. Japan has won the Asian Cup four times which is more than any other countries that have played in the Asian Cup. This will be their 9th appearance in an Asian Cup. They are currently ranked 61st in the FIFA World Rankings.

Uzbekistan has never qualified to play in a FIFA World Cup but the team has qualified for every Asian Cup since their independence. They have played in 6 Asian Cups and the highest they reached was the Semi-Finals in 2011. However, the team was thrashed 0-6 by Australia in the Semi-Finals. This will be their 7th appearance in an Asian Cup. They are currently ranked 95th in the FIFA World Rankings.

The national team of Oman was officially formed in 1978. Oman has never been able to qualify for a FIFA World Cup. But they have played in the Asian Cup three times. In all of them, they couldn’t go through to the knockout stage and were eliminated from the group stages. Their captain Ahmed Mubarak is the highest capped player of the country. They are currently ranked 84th in the FIFA World Rankings.

After their independence, Turkmenistan played their first official match in 1992 and played their first major tournament in 2004 at that year’s Asian Cup. But they failed to win any match in that tournament and were knocked out from the group stages. That was their only appearance in an Asian Cup and this edition will be their 2nd. Turkmenistan has never been able to qualify for a World Cup. They are currently ranked 130th in the FIFA World Rankings.
