The Australian football team entered the World Cup in Russia, because in the return match of the Intercontinental barrage match won against Honduras 3: 1, in Sydney. In the first match in San Pedro Sula the rezult was 0: 0. The hero of "kangaroos" was an experienced 33-year-old Mile Jedinak (Australian with Croatian roots) with three goals scored in 54th and penalties in the 72nd and 85th minutes. In the last seconds, guests from Honduras only eased their defeat with goal scored by Major Figueroa. Australians will play for the fourth time in a row at World cup, and a total of five because they also took part in the tournament in Germany in 1974.

Australia first appeared at the World Cup in West Germany, 1974. In the group they lost by East Germany and West Germany, and played draw with Chile. Australia waited long for its next World Cup, 32 years. They managed to qualify for the 2006 World Cup again in Germany. Australia won the penalty shootout in a qualifying match against Uruguay. Australia has become the first ever team to qualify for the World Cup on a penalty shootout. Also they won their first match on World cups against Japan with 3-1. In the next match they lost by Brazil. In the last match they played draw against Croatia and proceeded to next stage. In the round of sixteen they played against Italy and lost 1-0 in very controversial match. But this was certainly a huge success for them, they were considered major outsiders at the beginning. This is also the biggest success for Australia in world cups so far.

On the next World cup in South Africa they were in group with Germany, Serbia and Ghana. They lost 4-0 from Germany, draw against Ghana 1-1 and won against Serbia 2-1, but it wasn’t enough for them to proceed to round of 16. In Brazil 2014 they were in really tough group with Spain, Netherlands and Chile. They had an inglorious performance at this World Cup, because they lost all three matches. However after that, they made some changes to the team and the coaching staff and were again placed at the World Cup. Ange Postecoglou was head coach of the team in the qualifications and lead the team to the World cup 2018 in Russia. But after the qualifications Ange Postecoglou has resigned from his position as a head coach. For now, Australia has no coach even though there are many candidates. Captain and maybe biggest star of the team is Mile Jedinak who plays for  Aston Villa. The Australian national  team has several sound names that play for teams in Europe. Mathew Ryan (Brighton & Hove Albion) and Mitchell Langerak (Levante) are goalkeepers. In the team are also: Bailey Wright (Bristol City), Aziz Behich (Bursaspor), Aaron Mooy (Huddersfield Town), Massimo Luongo (Queens Park Rangers), Jackson Irvine (Hull City), Tom Rogic (Celtic), Mathew Leckie (Hertha Berlin), Nathan Burns (Sanfrecce Hiroshima). In the team is also the legend of Australian football Tim Cahill who has 38 years but will play on the next World cup.

This team has several quality players. We hope that they will show more this time than on the last World cup.
