Who is Bradford City manager Gary Bowyer?

Gary Bowyer is the current Bradford City manager and has been in the job since 2019. He was born in Manchester, England on 26 June 1971 and is 48 years old. He was originally a footballer as he followed in his father’s footsteps as he was also a footballer. He played at right back and left back for English clubs such as Hereford United, Nottingham Forest and Rotherham United.

Bowyer started his footballing career in the Westfields before signing for Hereford United in 1989. He made 14 appearances for Hereford United scoring 2 goals in his only season at the club before joining Nottingham Forest in 1990. Gary Bowyer spent 5 years at Nottingham Forest without ever making a competitive appearance before leaving the club to sign for Rotherham United in 1995. At Rotherham United, Bowyer made 38 appearances, scored 2 goals over the course of two seasons and won the 1996 Football League Trophy in the process. Unfortunately, in 1997, Gary Bowyer was forced to retire due to injury and consequently went into coaching.

After retiring, Bowyer went straight into coaching, joining the coaching staff at Ilkeston part time before managing Carshalton Athletic from 1998 to 2000. In 2000, Bowyer left Carshalton Athletic to join Derby County as an academy coach mainly coaching the under 17’s team. In 2004 however, Bowyer left Derby County to join Blackburn Rovers where he became their under 18’s coach. Gary Bowyer worked his way up the ladder at Blackburn Rovers, in 2008 he became their reserve team coach and then in 2012, he was appointed caretaker manager of the first team.

Gary Bowyer remained as the caretaker manager until May 2013 where he was named the club’s new permanent manager on a 12 month rolling contract. In November 2015, Bowyer was sacked from Blackburn Rovers but was appointed as Blackpool manager in June 2016. Gary Bowyer remained as the Blackpool manager beating Exeter City 2-1 in the League Two playoff final to reach the League One in his first season in charge until he resigned in August 2018.

In March 2019, Bowyer was appointed as Bradford City’s new manager after replacing David Hopkin. However, he could not stop the club from being relegated from League One. Next season, however, the Bradford City fans and the board will have high hopes for next season and will be desperate to bounce back into the EFL League One.
