Burnley – Vincent Kompany

Belgian expert and former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is the new manager of Burnley. Several candidates were in circulation, among them Chris Wilder and Wayne Rooney, however, the choice ultimately fell on a young, ambitious specialist.

In previous seasons, Kompany led the Belgian side Anderlecht from the bench. They finished in third place and reached the final of the Belgian Cup.

In April, Burnley parted ways with longtime coach Sean Dyche, after poor results that led to the club's relegation from the English Premier League. Burnley have had a verbal agreement with the former Manchester City captain since May. He signed the contract until 2025. It is up to him to bring elite football back to Turf Moor. And it will be hellishly difficult for him, because captain Ben Mee and his long-time stopper pair James Tarkowski left the club this summer, followed by Aaron Lennon, Phil Bardsley, Eric Peters and Dale Stevens. Pride, Wout Weghorst, a winter signing from Wolfsburg who is not really playing in the second league, is also expected to leave. Although, the club is announcing a change in transfer policy and giving younger players a chance, which is why the exodus of more experienced players is not surprising.

In his career, he played 532 games and scored 31 goals, both at the club level and for the Belgian national team. As a manager, Anderlecht led from 2020 to 2022. For a total of 92 games, of which he won 42, drew 32, and lost 18. His winning percentage is a little less than 50 percent, 45.65 percent to be exact.

The decision to take over Burnley was made by Kompany so that he could be closer to his wife Carla's family, the English media reported. As a footballer, Kompany played for Anderlecht, Hamburg and Manchester City. He played for City from 2008 to 2019, and for the team from Manchester he played 265 matches and scored 18 goals in all competitions. He became a legend of the club and that is why he deservedly got a statue in front of the Etihad, and now we will see if he will become a significant coach for Burnley, if he returns them to the Premier League. He ended his playing career two years ago in Anderlecht.

"Burnley is a historic English club and it is an honor to be their coach. I am excited about the challenge ahead. I can't wait to start working with the players and to create a winning team for our fans. I was impressed by the vision of the club's leadership, which is in line with mine, and I look forward to playing my part in the important season ahead," Kompany said. He succeeds Dyche on the coaching bench, who managed Burnley for ten years. Kompany has extensive playing experience in English football, he was City's captain when they won four Premier Leagues, two FA Cups and four League Cups.
