European Tour Golf Tournaments: Austrian Open 2020

One of the European tour golf tournaments, The Austrian Open, will happen from 9 July 2020 to 12 July 2020 at Diamond Country Club, Atzenbrugg, Austria. It is a 72-par golf course spread over 6820 meters. In 1990, it started as Austrian Open, but due to lack of funds and sponsors, its name kept changing from sponsor to sponsor. Now, the tournament has been reinstated as Austrian Open. The prize money for this edition is €0.5 million, and as per the PGA standard, the winner's share will be 90,000 Euros.

Austrian professional golfer Markus Brier has won the tournament record three times; he lifted the trophy in 2002, 2004, and 2006. England national Mark Davis won it twice; in 1991 and 1994. Due to the cancellation of The British Open 2020 event, elite players from Europe are expected to participate in the Austrian Open this year. Entry list of the tournament shows Connor Syme, Roope Kakko, Edoardo Molinari, Laporta Francesco, Mikael Lundberg, Chris Wood, Luiten Joost. Luiten, Lundberg, and Wood have won this championship in 2013, 2014, and 2015 respectively. Current British Open champion, Shane Lowery, who stood second in the Austrian Open 2013 edition, may also participate in the event.

Finlands' professional golfer, Mikko Korhonen, is going to defend his title. Korhonen won Shot Time Classic - The previous name of Austrian Open - in 2018 when he played sixteen under par battering Scotland's Connor Syme with a lead of 6 strokes. Edoardo Molinari had won the World Cup Golf Championship for Italy when the Molinari brothers shocked the world by outpointing the top seeds in 2009. In the presence of Molinary, Lowery, and Joost, it is difficult for Korhonen to defend the title.
