Neeraj Chopra will not be participating in Doha World Championship

According to a statement by Adille Sumariwala (President of Athletics Federation of India), Neeraj will not be taking part in any near upcoming competition including the World Championships due to be held in Doha later this year.

Neeraj is currently recovering after undergoing a surgery on May 2; the Federation President's statement further said that the star javelin thrower is recovering without any complications.

The keyhole surgery was performed on his throwing right hand by a celebrated orthopedic surgeon, in order to remove bone fragments from his elbow joint. He will not be able to recover before 3 months, hence completely rendering him unfit for the upcoming World Championships which will start on the 28th of September this year.

After winning the gold at the last year's Commonwealth Games, he became only the 3rd man to achieve the feat. But unfortunately a great year ended on a low note for the star, when he picked up the injury late last year.

Currently, Neeraj holds the 5th position in the IAAF world rankings in javelin. He hails from Haryana, a state in Northern India, which is famous for producing some well known kabaddi players and wrestlers.

Talking about Neeraj's surgery, Adille said that his surgery was successfully done and all the fragment of bones from his elbow were removed, the President of Athletics Federation of India further said that Neeraj is currently undergoing physiotherapy and that he'll be in-touch with Neeraj's doctors.

When asked if Neeraj will be taking part in the World Championships and what are the organization's plans from him, Adille said, that we want to allow him full time to get recovered, we don't want to push him and want him to go through the full process of recovery.
