2023 Breeders Cup: Who Are the Favourites This Season?

The Breeders Cup is returning later this year and will kick off on November 3 for a two-day event. The Cup will present 14 races for a year-end culmination that every horse, trainer, jockey, and owner worldwide can join.

Out of all the races, three horses in particular are gaining traction from horse racing fans, namely the Breeders Cup Classic, Distaff, and Turf. As one of the most awaited races in Santa Anita Park, it’s an event you shouldn’t miss.

To help you keep up with the high spirits, here are the top favourites in the Classic, Distaff, and Turf races that you should know.

Breeders Cup Classic

The Breeders Cup Classic is one of the highlight races in the event. It's a Grade I Weight for Age thoroughbred horse race that will take place on the second day of the Breeders Cup. Among all races, horse racers gaining in popularity in the year usually participate in the Classic, among others.

This race will be on a one ¼ miles-long dirt field and a purse of six million dollars. The Breeders Cup race odds for this year are a relatively competitive one. Here are the top favourites for the Breeders Cup Classic to reel you in.

Arcangelo

Arcangelo quickly became the top competitor for the Breeders Cup Classic after showcasing a spectacular performance this year. This three-year-old colt has only participated in three competitive stakes, where he has won in each of them. This includes the 2023 Peter Pan (G3), 2023 Travers Stakes, and one of the legs for the Triple Crown, the 2023 Belmont Stakes.

He has dominated every field he ran in, and expectations are high for his upcoming performance for the Breeders Cup Classic. If he continues to be in his best shape, without a doubt, Arcangelo can also easily dominate the San Anita Park field and improve his breeders cup races odds.

Arabian Knight

Next to Arcangelo is another colt who has just started running in the competitive stakes field this year. Despite that, Arabian Knight has presented a fantastic speed and has won two out of his three starts this year, where he was also placed in the third once. His most significant win was at Del Mar, Keeneland for 2023 Pacific Class (G1) and Oaklawn Park for 2023 Southwest Stakes (G3).

Although the colt only participated in a few starts so far, it only shows how influential Arabian Knight already is. Being one of the early top favourites for one of the most significant horse racing events for all thoroughbreds only explains it.

Geaux Rocket Ride

Another super favourite for the Breeders Cup Classic is this beautiful colt, Geaux Rocket Ride. He has only started running this year, but he's already shown an incredible record for a 111, the highest Equibase speed figure, winning three of his five starts this year and finishing second place twice.

Geaux Rocket Ride won over Arabian Knight last July 2023 in the 2023 Haskell Stakes (G1), and the former graciously won back in their following race in the 2023 Pacific Classic (G1). In these two races, fans could glimpse how the top favourites of the classic play against each other. Depending on how the race will unfold, fans can expect a lot for D-Day.

Breeders Cup Distaff

The Breeders Cup Distaff is another event of the Breeders Cup on the second day. It's one of the most awaited horse racing games for fillies and mares who are three years old and older. The purse for this race is two million dollars, where the horses will run for 1⅛ miles. Unlike the Classic, this list will present the top favourite for the 2023 Breeders Cup Distaff season.

Nest

Nest is a four-year-old filly who has been participating in stakes racing from 2021 up to the present. Out of 13 races in her record, she has participated in two stakes races today, namely 2023 Shuvee (G2), where she won, and 2023 Personal Ensign (G1), where she finished in third place.

This filly has won eight firsts and has already been twice each in second and third places. If you look closely, you'll discover that Nest has placed in all of her starts so far. If Nest continues to be in her best condition, her odds will continue to increase from here.

Breeders Cup Turf

After the Classic, Breeders Cup Turf is the next highest purse in all races, with four million dollars on the line. This game is for three years old and older thoroughbred horses. The field runs for one and a half milf on a turf surface, which makes the Turf one of the most interesting Breeders Cup races.

Mostahdaf

The top favourite for the Breeders Cup Turf is Mostahdaf, a five-year-old horse that started running in 2021. Since then, Mostahdaf has already participated in 16 starts. This year, this horse was in four starts and won in three, namely the 2023 Prince of Wales's Stakes (G1), the 2023 Juddmonte International Stakes (G1), and the 2023 Neom Turf Cup (G3).

This will be Mostahdaf's first-ever Breeders Cup game in his career so far. With his excellent record, Mostahdaf has the best chance of winning the Turf.

Final Thoughts

As one of the huge events of the end of the year, the Breeders Cup will continue to present fun and exciting races for all the horse racing fans. The Classic, Turf, and Distaff, in particular, will continue to serve high-end and most competitive races for everyone. In this list, you should probably know how the races will turn out based on the stats of the most favourite horses to win.
