Biathlon at the 2022 Winter Olympics and women's mass start

When mass start begins during the Winter Olympics, it means that each and every contestant gets to  start at the same time. Having an explosive start might give unexpected advantages. This is in great contrast to the other disciplines where contestants usually start with a delay in relation to each other.  That's why mass start is considered a chance to regain previously lost ground. The course at 12,5 kilometers is divided in five laps where each and every contestant gets to shoot four times. First the contestant shoots in a prone position and then in a standing position. If the shooter doesn't hit the target, she must go another 150 meters. That's why it's very important to hit the target. Mass start really demands an intensive balance between physical abilities and mental focus. This makes it a hectic part of biathlon during the Winter Olympics.

Even though it's a relatively new event that became a part of the Winter Olympics during 2002, it's still a given favorite amongst the public. Lots of people appreciate mass start since it puts a great demand on the participants abilities and show their strengths and weaknesses as skiers and shooters. As a spectator, you get to experience the best and worst when it comes to skiing and range shooting. It also provides a lot of information to speculate on the future outcome of the Winter Olympics. As far as rules go, the rifles must weigh at least 3,5 kilograms and be 22 caliber long rifles.
