As far as cross-country skiing goes, Kuyangshu Nordic Center and Biathlon Center in Zhangjiakou will most likely offer quite a few surprise.

Women's skiathlon takes place February 5 and will have some of the worlds top female skiers compete for the gold medal. Skiathlon is structured in a way that the athletes will have to apply two techniques following each other, both classic and freestyle. The difference between them being that classic means the skiers race using the traditional diagonal stride which could be described as basic skiing. Freestyle in contrast means that they usually apply a skating motion. The latter means that the skiers will be able to achieve much higher speeds.

The women will be competing on a course with a set distance at 15 kilometers. Completing it usually takes around 30-40 minutes.

As far as betting on individual athletes goes. Due to reoccurring injuries and uncertainties in regards to the makeup of the teams, it would be a fools game to make predictions. But what we can be sure of is that we'll see world class skiers compete at a course that has been built to perfection.
