Pro Basketball League (PBL) 2020/2021

There are a lot of uncertainties about the 2020-2021 Pro Basketball League as Belgium is still struggling with the Coronavirus. Last season was cut short and BC Oostende became once again champions, Oostende became champion for a record-breaking ninth straight time. The team led by Coach Dario Djerdja dominated the Belgian basketball competition the last decade but their domination started to show some cracks last season. They only became champion by winning one game more than second place finisher Mons-Hainaut and two game more than third place Antwerp Giants.

Just as the past few years BC Oostende remains favorite to win it all, the passionate coach Dario Djerdja's consistency is amazing and he can make any group of players a championship caliber team. His tandem with captain Dusan Djordjevic throughout the years has proven to be a solid cornerstone to build a team on. A solid group of players stayed and they made some nice additions such as Mario Nakic who they managed to steal from Real Madrid.

Their main competitor will be last year third place finisher the Antwerp Giants. Antwerp lost their starting power forward Hans Vanwijn in free agency but coach Roel Moors will try to fill this hole by newly acquired Jalen Jenkins. Antwerp is the only team who managed to put a few dents in Oostende's domination by winning the Cup Finals in 2019 and 2020.

Another competitor is Mons-Hainaut. Another well coached team and very strong defensively. This team proved to be great under pressure last year as they had a pretty low point differential of only 2,5 point per game last year! This is some cause for concern as this isn't a reliable way to win but with the new play-off format in the Pro Basketball league they could be a very dangerous team if they get in the play-offs. They lost their rebound and points leader Lennard Freeman but they will look at Skylar Spencer to step up and fill the gap Freeman left.
