The Swedish national team made a surprise, leaving Italy without a World Cup after exactly six decades. The Swedes resisted on San Siro (0: 0), after a minimal triumph in Solna (1-0), and left the Italian without placing on a major competition since 1992 and the European Championship that was held in Sweden. This was also a huge surprise in the barrage, but it also showed us that football is a game where everything is possible.

Sweden has a rich history of World Cups, so far participated 11 times. They first took part in the 1934 World Cup in Italy. Four years later in 1938, in France, they finished in 4th place. Then in Brazil in 1950 they finished in 3rd position. At the World Cup in 1958 as hosts they end up in 2nd position. In Mexico in 1970 they lost in group stage. Four years later in Germany they finished in 5th place, and four years later in Argentina they lost again in group stage as they did in Italy in 1990. But four years later in USA in 1994 they finished 3rd. In 2002 in Japan and South Korea and in Germany 2006 they lost in the round of sixteen. They failed to take place in the last two World cups. But now they have a change of generation and as their coach announced they have new heroes. There is no more Zlatan Ibrahimovic who retired, but fans would still want to see him in the World cup team. In the team they have many players from the home championship, many young talents. But they also have players who play in famous European clubs. Robin Olsen plays in Kopenhagen, Kristoffer Nordfeldt in Swansea City, Andreas Granqvist is the captain and is playing in Russian Premier league for Krasnodar. Mikael Lustig is playing for Celtic, Martin Olsson for Swansea Ciy, Victor Lindelöf (Manchester United), Sebastian Larsson (Hull City), Emil Forsberg (RB Leipzig), Albin Ekdal (Hamburger), Alexander Fransson (Basel), Sam Larsson (Feyenoord), Ola Toivonen (Toulous), John Guidetti (Celta Vigo), Alexander Isak (Borusia Dortmund) ect. As can be seen in the team they have young talented but also and old experienced players, who play in various leagues around the world. Head coach is Janne Andersson who is very disciplined and requires from the team full commitment to the game and combatability to the very end. In the qualifications proved to be solid in the defense, but also very dangerous when they attack. They have already made a big feat with the win over Italy, but we hope that at the World cup in Russia they will show us much more.
