Vuelta a Asturias 2021

The 2021 Vuelta a Asturias is the 63rd edition of the Vuelta a Asturias cycling stage race, which has been scheduled to take place between 30 April to 2 May 2021. The race is organized by Club Ciclista Aramo in Asturias, Spain and usually runs like a 2.1 race on the UCI Europe Tour.

It is also known as the Julio Alvarez Mendo Vuelta Asturias and was first run in 1925, but was not held regularly until 1968. The race has been run as a 2.1 event on the UCI Europe Tour since 2005. On 25 April 2014, due to a shortage of funds and sponsors, the Vuelta a Asturias was canceled one week before its launch but returned in 2015.

The route consists of three ultimate stages with a sprint on the mind and each stage involves mid-level to mountainous climbs throughout the race. The first stage is generally large like around 180 km among the stages. The total race distance is almost 470 km and round to the city of Spain. The race typically starts from Oviedo in northwest Spain and returns to Oviedo rounding the Asturias region to finish, in the same way, passing various medium hilly and rocky roads.

The race typically commences with several well-known and proficient teams and riders. It conveys general sprints on the road and indicates a challenging match among the runners. Not all runners are experts but the race goes on complexities for their fighting to win the race. However, the expected competing teams are including:

The 2020 Vuelta a Asturias was scheduled for 1 May but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ecuadorian cyclist Richard Antonio Carapaz Montenegro is the winner of the 62nd event of Vuelta Asturias that took place in 2019. Richard was riding for UCI WorldTeam Movistar Team and he took first place defeating his competitors Krists Neilands (Israel Cycling Academy) and Aleksandr Vlasov (Gazprom–RusVelo).
