The Polish national football team won a direct placement on the World Cup in Russia. Poland finished first with 25 points, Denmark is second with 20, Montenegro third with 16, followed by Romania with 13, Armenia with seven, and Kazakhstan is the last with 3 points. This will be the 8th World Cup for the Poles. Their first participation in the world championships was in the distant one 1938. The best success at the World Cups they reached in 1974 and 1982. They reached semifinals but the lost twice. They finished 3th both times. In 1974 they won against Brazil 1-0 and won 3th place, and their player Grzegorz Lato scored 7 goals in the first round of the championship. In 1982 the won against France 3-2 and won 3th place. The greatest international success was the winning gold medal at the 1972 Olympics. So far the most famous generation was that from the mid-1970s, who managed to pull off a draw at Wembley against England which took them to the 1974 World Cup. But now they have a generation with a large number of football stars and this may be the time to leave a bigger impression on international competition. Head coach of this generation is former football player Adam Nawałka. They have several incredible good goalkeepers. Lukasz Fabianski from Swansea City, Wojciech Szczęsny who plays for Juventus, Artur Boruc from Bournemouth and Przemysław Tytoń from Deportivo La Coruna. In the defense they have Łukasz Piszczek from Borussia Dortmund, Marcin Kamiński who plays for Stuttgart, Jan Bednarek from Southampton, Igor Lewczuk from Bordeaux, Bartosz Bereszyński from Sampdoria and some other players mostly from domestic championship. Kamil Grosicki from Hull City, Grzegorz Krychowiak from West Bromwich Albion, Jakub Błaszczykowski from VfL Wolfsburg are the most famous names of this team that plays in the midfield. But the attack is the strongest weapon of the team. Here is their captain and the most famous star of this team Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich together with Arkadiusz Milik from Napoli, Łukasz Teodorczyk who is playing in Anderlecht, Kamil Wilczek from Brondby. Of course this is only a part of the players who are available to the coach. There are quite a few young players especially from the home championship who will get a chance on the friendly matches and they will try to secure a place in the team that will go to the World Cup.

This generation has played twice at the European Championship in 2008 and 2012 when they were hosts. They finished on the last place of their group on both occasions which was very disappointing. Maybe this is a chance for this generation to show how much it really is worth.
