The British Darts Organisation, World Darts Championship, is the flagship tournament of the BDO and contested annually.  The BDO World Darts Championship was first introduced in 1978 and has been played at the current venue, Lakeside Country Club, since 1986.

The tournament has witnessed some of the greatest moments in professional darts history, including the final between a then unknown Keith Deller and five time winner, Eric Bristow.  Deller's victory over Bristow in the 1983 final, is still one of the biggest upsets in the history of the sport.  Moving on to 1990 and American player, Paul Lim hit the one and only 9 dart finish seen to date at the BDO World Darts Championship.  Lim received more money for that one leg of darts, than the actual winner of the tournament.

Famous winners of the BDO World Darts Championship include Leighton Rees, John Lowe, Jocky Wilson, Phil Taylor, Raymond van Barneveld and Martin Adams.

Fast forward to the 2017 event and Scott Waites comes in as the defending champion.  Last year, Waites claimed his second BDO Worlds Darts Championship title, as the Englishman defeated Canada's Jeff Smith 7-1.  It was the second time Waites has won the tournament by defeating his opponent 7-1 in the final.  Waites joined the likes of Jockey Wilson and Ted Hankey on two wins each but has some way to go, if he is to match he five titles won by Bristow.

The 2017 BDO World Darts Championship will be held between Saturday 7th January and Sunday 15th January.  Interestingly, the early favourite for the title is England's Glen Durrant, who's best performance to date is the semi-final, which he reached in 2015.  Last year, Durrant was also the bookies favourite but fell at the quarter-final stage, to the eventual winner, Scott Waites.

The likes of Martin Adams, Jeff Smith and Scott Mitchell are likely to feature in the latter stages of the tournament, having all done so in recent years.  However, with a full schedule of events during the course of the year, it's worth keeping an eye out of who is in form, as the 2017 BDO World Championship approaches.

As the season progresses, keep checking this page for the latest odds, as you may find they fluctuate.  Don't miss out on potentially great odds for your chosen player, ahead of the tournament.
