Tour of Austria 2021

The 2021 Tour of Austria is the country’s biggest and most prestigious cycling event scheduled to take place between 26 June and 1 July 2021 in Austria. This will be the 72nd event of the 2021 Tour of Austria. The race will be run as a 2.Pro event on the UCI Europe Tour and represents a great competition around Austria city.

The Tour of Austria is also known as Internationale Österreich Rundfahrt in the German language, is mainly a cycling stage race, and features riders from the best teams in the world. It was a competition for amateur cyclists from 1949 to 1995, and it became a professional event in 1996. It was raced as a 2.1 event on the UCI Europe Tour in 2005 and 2006 and became a 2.HC event in 2007. Since 2020, the race has been a part of the current UCI ProSeries. It has usually taken place in July since 2005. It was previously seen as a perfect preparatory race for the Tour de France.

The race consisted of six wonderful stages and the prologue (as an extra competition), one stage less than the 2016 edition. The total route distance could be expended by nearly one thousand kilometers. The competition is generally started with an individual time trial and finished through a challenging mountainous sprint. All the stages generally involve mountainous and hilly tracks and climb, the time trial also adds mountainous areas.

A number of big names with expert cyclists have already shown their intention to ride the race. Many experienced teams and riders usually participate in the race and keep their best efforts to capture the victory. As the race represents an important cycling event on the road of Austria, there is no confusion that previous teams and riders will not take part in the race regardless of some exceptions. Ben Hermans who is a Belgian professional cyclist won the 71st edition riding for UCI Professional Continental teams Israel Cycling Academy through mind-blowing performance in 2019. He took first place beating Eduardo Sepúlveda (Movistar Team) and Stefan de Bod (Team Dimension Data).
