Rules of sports sambo

Competitive system for determining the best athletes

Sambo is a martial art that has long been popular among Russians. It has also gained recognition among millions of martial arts enthusiasts in many countries. Its recent surge in popularity is linked to the success of Russian fighters in the UFC and other mixed martial arts organisations.

Competitions are a great way to truly test yourself and measure your skills against the strongest contenders for the championship title. They differ in terms of age groups, the level of training of the participating athletes, status and regional coverage.

In this article, we will discuss the general aspects of the competition rules.

Why competitions are necessary

Competitions are an important part of the training process and the development of a fighter's qualities, as well as a test of their level of training.

In competitive practice, athletes who compete against trained opponents who are also aiming to win the fight can assess their technical skills, physical abilities and willpower in real conditions. Such encounters teach a lot.

Understanding mistakes

All of an athlete's weaknesses and technical errors are best seen in competitive matches. Understanding mistakes helps to correct them in the future, improving the training process.

The highest result

In moments of high mental and physical tension, everyone has the opportunity to overcome their fears and become stronger. The most persistent, those who do not want to give up, win.

Motivation

Success in competitions gives confidence in oneself, one's skills and strengths, which helps athletes in all areas of life. Defeating an opponent, especially in a tough fight, is an excellent motivator for achieving higher results on the path to sporting glory and recognition.

Team spirit

The dedication and responsibility for the overall result that falls on the team members helps each wrestler individually to learn to devote all their energy to achieving victory, to cheer on their teammates, to discover their potential, and to strengthen friendly ties within the team.

Entry into the competition system

Includes many sections:

submitting an application,

obtaining permission to participate,

familiarisation with the rights and obligations of wrestlers and representatives of the judging commission, the rules of the competition, the evaluation of effective actions, and warnings.

The comprehensive set of rules has the following objectives: to make competitions clearly coordinated, fair and safe.

For each athlete, such events include several basic stages of the organisational and competitive parts.

Weigh-in

A wrestler has the right to enter only one weight category. Weigh-in allows the athlete's weight to be checked against the limits of the specified category. The time and order of weigh-in are announced in advance.

Weigh-in is a very important organisational procedure, which all athletes must approach with the utmost responsibility. If an athlete is late or fails to show up for weighing, they will automatically be disqualified.

One hour before the official weighing procedure begins, athletes can perform a so-called ‘weight check’ (check their weight on the official scales). If an athlete does not fall within the limits of the category, they have just under an hour to ‘make weight’.
