Tour of Valencia 2020

The edition number 71 of the Volta Ciclista a la Comunitat Valenciana will take place from Wednesday 5th to Sunday 9th February 2020 in Valencia, Spain. In the previous years, it was celebrated within the UCI Europe Tour calendar in category 2.1, but for the edition of 2020 it has been included in the new ProSeries category, so it will have 70% of World Tour category teams.

The first edition took place in 1929 and throughout its history, it has been dominated by Spanish cyclists. Up to 47 times a Spanish cyclist has achieved the final victory.

The cyclist with the most victories in the history is the Murcian cyclist Alejandro Valverde, who won the 2004, 2007 and 2018 editions. Last season he only managed to finish in second place, being the final victory for the Guipuzcoan cyclist Ion Izagirre with the jersey of Astana.

Preview of Tour of Valencia 2020

It is a cycling race divided into 5 stages, where in the 2020 edition it will have some decisive mountain passes such as the climb to Bernia, a terrible mountain pass of only 5 km that begins in Altea, but with an average slope higher than 11% and maximum slopes up to 24%. This climb will be in the fourth stage of the race, so it will decide the general classification of the race.

Top Competitors in Tour of Valencia 2020

We want to highlight some runners that we think will fight for the final victory of the general classification:

As we have said, this race is special for Alejandro Valverde, and in 2020 he will take part in the bunch with the Movistar team. It will be an important goal for him.

There will also be Luis Leon Sanchez, who has finished twice as second in this race. He will fight for being at the top of the podium at the finish line in Valencia.

There are other favorites like Greg Van Avermaet or Tadej Pogacar who will fight for victory as well, but as we have already written, this race was usually won by Spanish cyclists.
