Who wins Eredivisie 2019/2020?

Who will win the Eredivise in the 2019-20 season?

After Ajax’s incredible 2018-19 season in the Eredivise and the Champions League, everyone is wondering if they can repeat their success in the 2019-20 season. They’ll have to fight strong competition from PSV Eindhoven, Feyenoord and AZ Alkmaar if they want to retain their Eredivisie title.

Ajax are clearly the favourites going into next year’s Eredivisie campaign after an incredible 2018-19 season. They finished the Eredivisie season on 86 points in first place with an incredibly young squad. If Ajax can hold on to their young talents such as De Ligt, Neres, Van de Beek and Onana and not sell to big European clubs, then they could have another title-winning season. They’ll be hoping manager Erik Ten Hag can convince captain Matthijs De Ligt to remain at the club and push for another successful season.

PSV Eindhoven finished the season in second place on 83 points behind a very strong Ajax team. Their top scorer Luuk De Jong scored 28 goals as they pushed Ajax all the way, manager Mark Van Bommel will hope the club can keep hold of their strongest players in a bid to mount a title challenge. Hirving Lozano will be a key player if they can fend off strong European interest as they’ll hope he can keep scoring goals for the club in the 2019-20 season.

Feyenoord finished in third place a long way behind Ajax and PSV Eindhoven on 65 points, with top scorer Robin Van Persie retiring they’re going to have to look for another source of goals. If Feyenoord can recruit players in key positions across the field then they will have a very good chance at winning the Eredivisie title in the 2019-20 season under manager Giovanni Van Bronckhorst.

AZ Alkmaar finished fourth in the Eredivisie in the 2018-19 season on 58 points. The fans will have to hope the club can recruit good players in order to compete for the title (and maybe hope the top clubs can sell their players.) Manager John Van Den Brom will hope to inspire his players alongside captain Guus Til if they are to keep consistent form across the entire season.

Other teams that could come from nowhere to compete for the title are Vitesse, Utrecht and Groningen if they can cause a few upsets along the way. In my opinion, Ajax are the favourites and should retain their Eredivisie title. But PSV Eindhoven will be in the mix and it should be an exciting season.
