Belarus in Eurovision Song Contest Odds

Nikita Alekseev (ALEKSEEV) will represent Belarus at the Eurovision song contest in 2018. This was announced on February 16. Ukrainian singer with the song “Forever” has won the sum of votes of TV viewers and professional jury of the national selection of Belarus (ALEKSEEV has received the maximum 24 points).

Nikita Alexeev was born in Kiev, from childhood, studied music and vocals. Participated in Junior Eurovision, performed as part of the Ukrainian group “Mova”. In 2014 took part in popular Ukrainian TV show “Golos Krainy”. In 2015, his song “Drunk sunshine” topped the Russian iTunes. After a year the first album came out ALEKSEEV. The assets of the singer such awards as: the YUNA award in the nomination “discovery of the year”, the award “Breakthrough of the year “Muz” and award for “Best song” from RU.TV. The song “Drunk sunshine” hit the top hundred songs of the year music charts Shazam, and in 2017, Ukrainian became the best pop performer of Russian national music award.

By the way, Nikita wanted to represent Ukraine at the Eurovision song contest, but withdrew its application for selection, giving preference to the Belarusian national selection.

Unfortunately, the Belarusian preliminary decision repeatedly made negative headlines by alleged valuation manipulations or the short-term exchange of song and or artist. This year, the TV station BRTC was accused by seven of the participating candidates to manipulate the preliminary decision in favor of Alekseev: his pre-published in Russian at several concerts contribution was not disqualified, but could be slightly rewritten in order to participate in the competition. So gracious was it previously not been with a title of the singer Sofia Lapina, which canceled in view of the unequal treatment their preliminary decision participation without further ado.

The European Broadcasting Union studied the situation and notified Belteleradiocompany that singer ALEKSEEV can perform at the international Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon the song “Forever” in its original version, the one that was performed on January 11, 2018 when the candidates of the national selection were auditioned within the media holding.

“I am okay with a Ukrainian singer representing Belarus at the Eurovision Song Contest”, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said during the meeting with creative youth at the Belarusian State Youth Theater on 20 March, BelTA informs. “There is nothing bad in it, especially when this is a Russian or Ukrainian person,” Alexander Lukashenko said. “It is not banned. Russian or Ukrainian guys can represent Belarus, Belarusians can represent other countries.”

“Forever” is a perfect– if not rather dated – Eurovision entry, yet in every live performance to date, Alekseev has failed to measure up to the studio vocal. Alekseev is a big name for Belarus and it’s pretty sure there’s some decent money behind this project, so any vocal frailties exposed at this point should be disguised or minimised by the time we get to Lisbon.

Belarus joined the Eurovision Song Contest in 2004 and has participated every year since making its debut. Belarus achieved its best placing in the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest, sixth place, in 2007. Last year Naviband competed at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Story of My Life”, which qualified for the Grand Final. It was the first time the country had sent an entry in Belarusian to the competition.
