Premier League 20/21 Season Preview

2020 will see one of the shortest breaks we have witnessed between the end of one Premier League season and the beginning of the next. The 2020/21 Premier League campaign will begin on the 12th of September and the fixtures have been released, with some excellent matches to look forward to on the opening day.

One of which takes place at Anfield between the defending champions, Liverpool and newly promoted Leeds United. This is an interesting fixture with the hosts hoping to begin the defence of their title with a convincing victory while the visitors will be eager to impress on their return to the English topflight.

There is no doubt Liverpool are going to be difficult to beat again this season. They are unlikely to lose any of their key players and although there are going to be few new additions to the squad, keeping the current team together is vital. It is also worth remembering Liverpool have enjoyed a longer rest period than their nearest challenges from last season, Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s team travelled to Portugal to participate in the Champions League only to be eliminated at the quarter-final stage by Lyon. Manchester City were disappointing last season and have already made additions to their squad. Guardiola will be looking for a huge improvement from his team defensively and new signing, Nathan Ake, could be the man to solidify the defence. Expect to see a much stronger push for the title by Manchester City this season and they will run Liverpool close at the top.

You can bet on the destination of the Premier League title, the top goal scorer, the top four and the relegation battle.

Manchester United will be hoping to capture the attention of those who are having a wager on the destination of the Premier League title. At the time of writing, the Red Devils are yet to add to their squad in the transfer window and Manchester United fans will be coming anxious it is going to be another disappointing summer. If they are to challenge the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to bring in at least two quality players.

In contrast to Manchester United, Chelsea have been active in the transfer market with the addition of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech. The Blues have also been linked with a move for Kai Havertz but need to improve defensively to close the gap on Liverpool. There has yet to be any sign of a big move for a defender and that could prove costly for Frank Lampard.

It will be interesting to follow the progress of Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sheffield United during the 2020/21 campaign. The latter have lost goalkeeper Dean Henderson but moved quickly to replace him with Aaron Ramsdale. Wolves endured a long season and their players will need to recover quickly in order to improve on their 7th place.
