The Midlands teams for in the Premier League are Leicester City, Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion. All of them are in similar grounds before the beginning of the tournament, so let’s analyze what’s going on and which team can have the better performance for this new season.

Leicester City had a strange past season. Maybe the expectations were too high after their championship, but the team wasn’t at the same level. This caused the departure from Claudio Ranieri and the signing of Craig Shakespeare as the manager. Leicester ended up having a good performance in the UEFA Champions League, but this season will have to improve in general terms. However, between the Midlands clubs is the best favored, and their chances will increase even more if they improve the squad. The possible signing of Kelechi Iheanacho might be a good starting point. The young forward from Manchester City is already a good player, but with lot of potential, and can suit the playing style of the team perfectly. The signing of Vicente Iborra could give some strength in the midfield, but a more offensive player is also needed. The possible departure from Riyadh Mahrez could hurt the chances, but Leicester might have the financial means to replace him and miss a little less his impressive skills. The main advantage they have is all the money they’ve gathered in the past seasons because of their local and European performances. If they use it wisely, they’ll gain a lot of advantage.

Stoke City will need to show some great improves this season. The last one, the team managed by Mark Hughes alternated between some good and bad performances. For this year, the signings of the center back Kurt Zouma and the historical defensive midfielder Darren Fletcher might enhance the defensive aspect of the team, which lacked in some passages of the last Premier League. However, the offensive zone is where Stoke needs more attention. The team lacked creation and scoring power the past season, and will need to improve it. So far, no new movements have been registered, and this may hurt their chances. Players who started to get some opportunities the past season might shine this one. Ramadan Sobhi and Saido Berahino, for whom Stoke City paid 15 millions in January, might prove their value and their full potential this season.

With the squad in the making, West Bromwich Albion is the team with more issues to resolve for the next season. The past one, however, surprised everybody and was the best team between the Midlands one, finishing in the 10th position. Could they achieve that record again? It will depend on the new signings. They’ve already secured the egyptian center back Ahmed Hegazi, who had a previous european spell in Italy. But he is a bet, and he will have to prove his value in a more difficult league. Different is the situation for the other signing: the forward Jay Rodríguez already showed some good performances in the Premier League, and is a more established player. Will this be sufficient for WBA? Probably not, but is clear that they’re looking at young players with potential to grow. The risk, as always, is that it might not be enough.
