Euro 2020: Supercomputer predicts the outcome of Turkey vs Italy

With Euro 2020 finally kicking off on Friday, bookmaker Paddy Power have commissioned a supercomputer simulation to discover the outcome of the opening match, which will see Italy take on Turkey at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

It’ll come as no surprise that the Azzurri head into the match against Turkey as the odds-on favourites to win the match at 1/2 in the Euro 2020 betting. However, will things be plain sailing for Roberto Mancini’s in-form side? Let’s find out!

Italy strike early

Playing in the opening match of a major international tournament on home soil can often lead to a nervy affair. However, there will be no hanging around from Italy as Lorenzo Insigne is tipped to fire the Azzurri into the lead after just 10 minutes.

Early bookings

The referee won’t be keeping the cards in his pocket in the early stages of the game either, with Nicolò Barella entering the book just after Lorenzo’s opener, whilst Hakan Çalhanoğlu (Turkey) and Leonardo Spinazzola (Italy) will also receive early yellows.

Turkey reply

Veteran striker Burak Yılmaz will get Turkey back into the game, notching an equaliser for Şenol Güneş’ men in the 25th minute — sparking scenes of jubilation in the underdogs’ dug-out at the Stadio Olimpico.

Barella fires Italy back into the lead

Unfortunately for Turkey, they won’t be level in Rome for long as Barella is set to regain Italy’s advantage just five minutes later. The midfielder had a fantastic season with Inter Milan last season, helping them win their first Serie A title in 10 years, and it looks like he’s going to carry that form into the Euros.

After a dramatic first 30 minutes at the Stadio Olimpico, there will be little else to note.

Full-time: Turkey 1-2 Italy

Turkey Predicted XI: Uğurcan; Müldür, Demiral, Söyüncü, Çelik; Kökçü, Yazıcı, Karaman, Çalhanoğlu, Ünder; Yılmaz
