This will be 17th U-19 European Championship in this format or 67th if we count Under-18 and Juniors eras. UEFA U-19 European champinship is played in this format since 2002, and it’s held every year. They won the last championship in Georgia 2017. They played against Portugal in the final and won 2:1.

54 teams participated in the qualifications. In the elite round of qualification, 28 teams were divided into 7 groups of 4 teams. The winners of each group qualified for the European competition

Eight teams qualified for this tournament. Finland as host and also debutant, Norway, England, Italy, Turkey, Portugal, Ukraine and France. These 8 teams will be separated into two groups, group A and group B. Finland is assigned to position 1 in group A. The final will be played on July 29 2018 in Seinäjoki on OmaSP Stadion. The draw for the groups will be held on 30 May 2018 in Vaasa, Finland.

The first two teams from each group will proceed to the semi-finals and also wil qualify for FIFA World Cup under 20 2019 in Poland. The third placed teams will play in play-off for the FIFA World Cup u-20 2019.

This is a great competition for discovering new football talents and stars. Last year golden player award won Mason Mount from England. He is Chelsea player on loan in Vitesse. Even four players won the top goalscorer award, Ben Brereton (England), Ryan Sessegnon (England), Joël Piroe ( Netherlands) and Viktor Gyökeres (Sweden) each one has scored 3 goals.

Maybe players are still young and insufficiently known to attract great attention to the public, but from year to year we see great football in this competition and that should be enough to keep our attention.
