After leaving Peterborough United in 2015 due to mutual consent, Ferguson joined Doncaster Rovers in October 2015. In his time at Doncaster Rovers, Ferguson managed to gain promotion with the side after finishing third in League Two in the 2016-17 season. Peterborough United appointed Darren Ferguson for the third time in January 2019 as he led the side to a seventh placed finish in his opening season.
