A stadium event, the Electronic Sports League (ESL) fixture is set to have 8 teams fight it out for a $200,000 prize (unlike previous ESL One events, the prize pool for this event is $50,000 less than what is usually up for grabs), when thousands of fans take over the Mineirinho Arena for three days (15-17th) in June, aiming to reproduce the same excellent atmosphere that we saw in the CS:GO Pro League Season 4 finals, which were held in the country that has produced one of the strongest rosters we have seen in recent years in SK Gaming.

Before we discuss the event first let’s get an insight into Mineirinho Arena, it’s a venue which has a capacity of up to 25,000, and will showcase the group stages decider matches, semifinals and the grand finals. As for ESL, it’s a part of the international digital entertainment group MTG & is the world’s largest esports company.

ESL One Belo Horizonte 2018 marks the first edition of the flagship event series ESL One in Brazil and the second stadium event held in the South American region. As mentioned earlier, in 2016 the CS:GO Pro League celebrated its debut (as the country's first premium CS:GO tournament) in Sao Paulo, Brazil, welcoming over 6,000 fans at the sold out Ginasio do Ibirapuera on each of the main event days and over 400,000 viewers online. The North American’s Cloud9 and local heroes SK Gaming were able to secure their spot in the Grand Finale, which in the end was decided in favor of Cloud9.

Powered by Intel, it will feature eight world class CS:GO teams from around the world battling it out with each other. Four out of the 8 teams will be invited directly to participate in the group stages of the event, while the remaining four will be filled with the winners of the qualifiers. It will have two stages:

Group Stage:

  • The group stage will be held between June 13th and June 15th
  • Two groups with four teams in each
  • Double elimination group format (GSL), all matches are best of 3
  • Top two from each group move on to the playoffs

Playoffs:

  • The playoffs will be played on June 16th and June 17th
  • Single-Elimination bracket
  • Best of 3 matches

Also this event will form a part of the Intel® Grand Slam, which will award a handsome $1,000,000 (£708,780) bonus prize to the first CS:GO team that wins four out of the last ten DreamHack or ESL events. This includes the event series ESL One, Intel Extreme Masters, CS:GO Pro League and DreamHack Masters.

According to the Leo De Biase, CEO of ESL Brazil "This means a lot to the region as it will definitely foster the growth of the local esports scene and inspire more players to join the ESL grassroots ladders, chasing their dream to also become a legend and following the footsteps of their heroes".
