Who is Blackpool's manager?

Neil Critchley was born on the 18th of October, 1978 in Crewe, England and is the current manager of Blackpool FC. Critchley played professional football in midfield for English clubs Crewe Alexandra and Leigh RMI between the years of 1999 and 2001. He made 1 appearance for Crewe Alexandra in a 3-0 loss to Fulham FC along with 3 appearances for Leigh RMI. Neil Critchley is one of only 16 managers to have gained a UEFA elite coaching badge.

In 2013, Neil Critchley joined Liverpool in order to become their under 18’s manager. He worked in the job for 4 years before being promoted to the club’s under 23 side in 2017. Due to Liverpool’s first team success in the 2019/20 season, Critchley stepped in to coach the first team on 2 occasions.

Because Liverpool won the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League, they qualified for the FIFA Club World Cup which would be held in Qatar. This meant that Neil Critchley had to take charge of Liverpool’s EFL Cup quarterfinal against Aston Villa which was due to be held a day before their Club World Cup match against Monterrey.

The match against Aston Villa saw Critchley use many of his under 23 side in the match, however, the match ended in a 5-0 loss. Despite this, he went on to manage the first team once again on the 4th of February, 2020 against Shrewsbury Town in an FA Cup fourth round replay. This game ended better than his first game in charge with a 1-0 win due to an own goal. Since Critchley had a 50% win rate with the first team, this put him in 13th place in Liverpool’s highest win rate rankings.

On the 2nd of March 2020, Blackpool appointed Neil Critchley as their first team manager.

On 23 May 2023, Critchley returned to Blackpool, on a four-year deal, following their relegation to League One.
