Graeme Jones - manager in Luton Town

Many clubs in England had the opportunity to undergo major changes over the course of over a 100 years long history. Some have changed the name (even more times), the color of the jerseys, the ranking of the competition, the stadium... And some had the opportunity to change all of the above during the 130 years of existence, several times. That's exactly the case with the football club, Luton Town. So we can say that FC Luton Town is very keen to make changes. In the season 2018/19 Luton Town was competing in the English League One. The were among the favourities for promotion but more likely through the playoff. At the beggining of the season Nathan Jones from Wales was their manager. They had very good start of the season, their form was very good and soon they became biggest favourities for the promotion to the Championship League. But in January he left the club and became manager of Stoke City. In that moment Luton was a team with record goals scored per game in the league. Mick Harford was appointed as caretaker manager in Luton Town, but it doesn’t stop the club to continue with great games and form. At the end of the season 2018/19 Luton Town finished on the top of the League One with 94 points, without defeat at home matches with 16 wins and 7 draws, and on the away games had 11 wins, 6 draws and 6 defeats. They have scored 90 and received 42 goals in the whole season. After the promotion to the Championship it was clear that in the club will be made some changes.

The change was at the managerial position. Graeme Jones was appointed for the manager of Luton Town. It was a bit of a suprise as he doesn’t has any experience as manager, but he has rich experience as assistant manager. In 2007 he became assistant manager in Swansea City when their manager was Roberto Martinez. Ever since 2007 and until 2018 these two were working together in Wigan Athletic, Everton and Belgian national team, Roberto Martinez as manager and Graeme Jones as assistant manager. They split in 2018 and Graeme Jones became assinstant manager in WBA where manager was Darren Moore. Luton Town is his first challenge as manager and it will be in the one of the most difficult leagues in the world, the English Championship.

Chief executive of Luton Town  Gary Sweet said: “We are delighted to be the first club to secure the managerial services of Graeme Jones. He has caught our eye over the last few seasons. We were always looking for an individual with fresh ideas but one who would befit our club's culture and ambition; one who is capable of taking Luton Town to the next level, building further upon the foundations we have nurtured over the last few years.”

Graeme Jones said that it is big challenge for him and he is ready for it. He said that the club have good chemistry and he won’t be making any big changes in the staff or the players.

However, one thing is for sure, the preassurre is certanly big and he will have very difficult task to avoid relegation this season.
