Champions League Final Preview: Who Will Lift the Trophy?

With a new format for the 2024-2025 season, the Champions League has had so much to play for. Instead of the previous group tables, this year it's been 36 teams contesting the cup from September through to May. With the final on the last day of this month, it's time to see who will actually make it to the final and which team is most likely to lift the trophy.

The final two

After a lot of hard-fought battles, the final two are now decided. The final is between Paris St-Germain and Inter Milan, the latter the first to take their spot in the final after an impressive victory over Barcelona in the semi finals. Paris has to fight a lot more, but eventually took the aggregate win over Arsenal. It's actually going to the the fourth time Paris have made it to the final with back to back finals in 1996 and 1997. The team lost in 2020 to Bayern Munich, so they have a lot to play for. They're also looking to claim a first-ever Champions League win and will be the first French club to do so since 1992-93 if they manage it. As such, the two teams are taking the final preparatory steps as they head to the final, held for the first time since 2012 in Munich.

Who could take it?

At the moment, the tide seems to be distinctly in favour of Paris St-Germain. A number of pundits have already pegged the Paris side as the one to beat. And there are a variety of reasons for this. For one, the team is considered one of the most well-rounded at the moment. It's got control, structure, quality and a solid team base with players all thinking in the same way. The only way they can really be beaten is if they have to defend in their own box a lot, but it's not likely to occur. Really, the only team that might have managed it is Barcelona, and they're already out of contention.

This analysis aligns with current trends seen on several sports platforms, where data-driven match predictions—including those reflected on Premier Bet online Malawi—highlight PSG as firm favourites. It’s an indication of both public confidence and statistical support for the Parisian side’s chances this season.

Veteran commentator Phil McNulty echoed this confidence, calling PSG “the team to beat” after a string of commanding performances. Although they showed signs of vulnerability during their tie against Aston Villa, PSG’s ability to regroup and respond—backed by a deep bench and experienced front line—has bolstered their reputation as this season's strongest contenders.

Inter Milan's Chances

Still, Inter Milan cannot be underestimated. The Italian side has been solid all year, with Yann Sommer leading a defensive unit that boasts the best clean sheet record in the competition. More than just defensively sound, Inter has shown consistent attacking flair, making this their second semi-final in just three years—a clear sign of a club on the rise.

Should they succeed in disrupting Paris’ rhythm and imposing their tactical control, Inter has every chance of claiming their first Champions League title since 2010.

The Final Verdict

As always in football, nothing is guaranteed. Odds and predictions shift quickly, and even favourites can stumble on the big stage. What remains certain, however, is that this final will feature two of Europe’s most dynamic sides fighting for glory. Expect fireworks in Munich.
