Who is Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovač?

Bayern Munich is the most successful football team from Germany. The team dominate the German Bundesliga and most season on easy way they wins the league. So the real challenge for them is playing in european club competitions like UEFA Champions league. 2017/2018 Jupp Heynckes was manager of the club and managed to win domestic title but in the Champions League managed to reach only to semi-finals where they lost from Real Madrid. However Heynckes was manager for only that one season and after that he retired. In the summer there were many rumors about who the next Bayern’s manager will be. The decision was a little surprise as Niko Kovač was appointed as new manager.

Kovač is former croatian football player and also has played for Bayern Munich. He started his managerial carrer in the second team of Red Bull Salzburg. After thar he was manager of the young selections of Croatia national team. In 2013 he became manager of the senior national team of Croatia. He managed to qualify for the World Cup 2014 in Brazil. In the group stage they had two defeats and one win. After the World Cup his contract was terminated. In 2016 he was appointed as a manager of Eintracht Frankfurt. In the first season there he managed to save the team from relegation in the play out games against Nurnberg.

Next season Frankfurt finished in the middle of the table but managed to reach the DFB Pokal Final and unfortunately lost there against Borussia Dortmund. Last season was one of the best for Eintracht Frankfurt in a long time. They fought all season for place in a european competitions and also they played again in DFB Pokal Final and this time they won against Bayern Munich. It was first trophy for this team since 1988.

Last summer Bayern Munich and Kovač signed contract on 3 years.

“We are honored to announce that Niko Kovač will be our coach for the next season, he has already played here, he knows people from the club and the entire structure inside him. We are convinced that he is the right choice," said sports director Hasan Salihamidzic.”

His brother is also his assistant Robert Kovač also former Bayern Munich player. However this season is far from fairtale for Niko and his staff. He started his carrer as Bayern Munich manager with win and trophy in German DFL Supercup against his former club Eintracht Frankfurt. However after 12 rounds in Bundesliga Bayern is on 5th position with 21 points, 9 points behind first placed Borussia Dortmund. So far the team has 6 wins, 3 draws and 3 losses. Last round they only played draw against Fortuna Düsseldorf and many thought that it is his last game as manager of Bayern but the club decide to give him more opportunities. In the Champions League Bayern won against Benfica with 5-1 and won the first place in the group with 13 points and qualify for the first knock out phase.

Although many football experts, former Bayern Munich managers and fans aren’t very pleased with the work of Niko Kovač in Bayern Munich he is still manager there.

He proved his quality as manager in Frankfurt but it seems that it is not enough to work in Bayern with so many football stars and pressure.
