Who is Torino manager Moreno Longo?

Moreno Longo was born on the 14th of February, 1976 in Grugliasco, Italy and is the current manager of Serie A team Torino FC. Longo played professional football as a fullback for clubs around Italy such as Torino, Chievo and Cagliari.

Lascaris was Moreno Longo’s first club as he joined their youth academy at a young age. Torino then picked him up in 1987 where he played for their age grades until 1994 where he made his first team debut as a substitute against AC Milan. In his time at Torino, he won the 1995 Torneo di Viareggio before leaving the club just 2 years later having made only 31 appearances over 3 seasons.

Moreno Longo then made appearances for Lucchese, Chievo, Cagliari, Teramo, Pro Vercelli and Alessandria between the years of 1997 and 2006. He also made an appearance for the Italian under 18’s side and 2 appearances for the under 21’s side, however, he failed to make an appearance for the National team.

After going into retirement, Longo went into management and took charge of both Filadelfia Paradiso and Canavese before joining Torino in 2009 as a reserve team manager. Longo had a successful time with the reserve team and the under 19’s team where he won the Campionato Primavera and the Supercoppa Primavera in the 2014/2015 season.

He worked his way up the ranks before leaving to join Pro Vercelli in 2016 and then Frosinone just a year later. After being sacked from Frosinone in December 2018, Moreno Longo took a break from management before being appointed as head coach of Torino in February 2020 taking over from previous manager Walter Mazzarri. Moreno helped the club avoid relegation by finishing 16th and 5 points above the relegation zone. This season, the fans will hope Moreno can improve on this finish with top players such as Simone Verdi and Andrea Belotti ready to lead the line.
