History of World Grand Prix
In the championship match in Coventry in 2021, Ronnie O'Sullivan defeated Neil Robertson 10-8 to claim the title. In the championship match, Judd Trump defeated Jack Lisowski 10-7 to claim the 2020 World Grand Prix. In the final, Neil Robertson defeated Graeme Dott 10-8 to win the World Grand Prix in Cheltenham in February 2020. In 2019 final, Judd Trump defeated Ali Carter 10-6 to claim the victory. Ronnie O'Sullivan defeated Ding Junhui 10-3 to win the 2018 World Grand Prix. The event's first staging took place in the North Wales resort of Llandudno in 2015.
Who is the defending champion in World Grand Prix?
To defeat Neil Robertson and win the 2021 World Grand Prix for the third time, Ronnie O'Sullivan dug deep into his memory vault. O'Sullivan says he stunk the joint out in his semi-final victory over Stuart Bingham and still managed to proceed to the final despite being far from his best. Against Robertson, he had trouble getting going, but in the final half, something clicked, and he overcame a 7-5 deficit to win 10-8, earning him his 38th ranking victory, 28 years after his first.
Who are the favorites to win World Grand Prix 2023?
Having won four tournaments this season, including the Masters and the recent Tour Championship, Neil Robertson is, without a doubt, the big favorite for the world. The 40-year-old is in scintillating form and kicks off the tournament against world number 77, Ashley Hugill. Judd Trump also arrives with form under his belt, having won the recent Turkish Masters and reached the final of the Welsh Open. Trump also won the Champion of Champions tournament earlier this season and reached the semi-finals of the Masters. The 2019 world champion is, without doubt, one of the key players in this year's event, but does face a tricky opener against Iran's Hossein Vafaei. Ronnie O'Sullivan, a six-time champion, is another man you should never write off. The 46-year-old made it to the European Masters final. The Rocket has also had three semi-final appearances, one of which came at a recent Tour Championship competition.
Conclusion
If you are a snooker fan, there is plenty of action coming your way. This year, the World Grand Prix will be one of the best seasons because all players are in exceptional form. Let's hope for an exhilarating event.
