Who is IF Elfsborg manager Jimmy Thelin?

Bo Jimmy Thelin was born in Jönköping, Sweden on March 14th, 1978 and is the current manager of IF Elfsborg. Thelin played football as a centre back for Swedish side IF Haga which is a small team in Jönköping, Sweden where he played in the fifth and fourth division between the years of 1995 and 2003.

Jimmy Thelin started his managerial career at FC Ljungarum in 2005 where he led the team to a hugely successful season in 2006 winning 17 out of 18 games which won them the Swedish sixth division title. FC Ljungarum and Thelin won another title in 2008 before Jönköpings Södra IF offered Jimmy Thelin a contract at the club.

Thelin started working at Jönköpings Södra IF in the youth academy of the club by managing the under 17’s team, the under 19’s team and the under 21’s team, all stints going well for Jimmy Thelin.

In 2014, Jönköpings Södra IF found themselves without a head coach as previous head coach Mats Gren left the club to join IFK Göteborg. The club decided to appoint Jimmy Thelin at the start of the 2014 Superettan season where he led the side to a fourth place finish which was their best result since 1976. This finish meant they ended the season 1 place ahead of current Brighton and Hove Albion coach Graham Potter’s Östersunds FK.

The following season saw Jimmy Thelin guide Jönköpings Södra IF to the Superettan title finishing on 63 points, this meant that Jönköpings Södra IF would compete in the Allsvenskan for the first time in 46 years. However, in their first season back in the Allsvenskan, the club was relegated through the relegation playoffs after finishing 14th in the league.

In 2018, Thelin joined IF Elfsborg after taking over from previous managers Nemanja Miljanović and Janne Mian. Jimmy Thelin guided IF Elfsborg to a 12th placed finish in his opening season at the club. In his second season at the club, IF Elfsborg finished in 8th place which was an improvement on the first season.
