Swedish Cup in football celebrates its 62nd season in 2017-18 edition of the “Svenska Cupen” in Sweden. Swedish Cup is played with two rounds in the fall of 2017, where teams from Allsvenskan and Superettan goes into the second round before the winter break.

The first round of the Swedish Cup 2017/18 was drawn and now there are also details on the Association's website on how the new cup format will look like. The big news was put out with the last autumn's group stage introduced in spring 2018. Round 1 includes 52 teams from Division 1 and down. The last match fro this round is scheduled to be played on May 31st 2017. This round’s ties include only a match, the winner advancing to the next round, no return match is played. Round 2 is formed by the 26 winners from round 1 + all registered Elitettan-law (10 teams) + the 4 highest ranked teams in Division 1 (Qbik, Bollstanäs SK Jitex BK Molndal and Lidköpings FK). This stage of the competitions will reach its end on 31st August 2017. Round 3 represents the stage of the competition in which the teams from the main league of Swedish football join the competition. These 12 teams are going to be joined by the 20 winners from Round 2. After this stage, the 16 remaining teams will be divided into 4 groups of 4 teams each which are going to be played during the spring of 2018.  The 4 group winners advance to the semi-finals, the best 2 of them going to play on a date which is yet to be revealed for the trophy.

The winner of this competitions will play in the 2018-19 UEFA Europe League qualification rounds.

Last season, It was a festive cup final where Ostersund started better and took a 2-0 lead. Norrkoping rehearsed new courage after the break, got the equalizer and were on their way back into the game swinging. Alhaji Gero, however, could put the 3-1 and Saman Ghoddos punctured definitely the game with a grand 4-1, five minutes before the end of the match. Jämtkraft Arena will be the venue for the qualifiers for the UEFA Europa League in the summer.

Contender for this season’s trophy is definitely the team Malmo FF. The team was being speculated of trying to convince Zlatan Ibrahimovic to be back in Sweden and join Malmo FF before ending his carrer. Ibrahimovic did address questions about a return to his hometown club Malmo, where he began his career, saying that was not an option."I'm too good for the Swedish league," he said. Althought, Malmo FF is still a top contender to win the Swedish Cup this season.

AIK, another top Swedish team is a favorite for winning this trophy too. After Borussia Dortmund signed Sweden striker Alexander Isak, the tea from Solna is looking to invest the money received in order to make the team stronger.

With few chances of winning are of course last season’s winner and runner-up OSTERSUND FK and IFK Norrköping but also Orebro SK, IF Elfsborg or IFK Gothenburg.
