Who is Malmö FF manager Jon Dahl Tomasson?

Jon Dahl Tomasson was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on the 29th of August, 1976 and is the current manager of Malmö FF. Tomasson played football as a striker for European clubs such as Newcastle United, AC Milan, Feyenoord and Villarreal. Over the course of his club career, he made 450 competitive appearances and scored 180 goals.

Between the years of 1992 and 2011, Jon Dahl Tomasson played for Køge, Heerenveen, Newcastle United, Feyenoord, AC Milan, VfB Stuttgart and Villarreal. His longest stint at a club came at Feyenoord where he made 122 appearances and scored 55 goals. He also won the 1998/99 Eredivisie, the 1999 Johan Cruyff Shield and the 2001/02 UEFA Cup.

In Tomasson’s time at AC Milan, he made 76 competitive appearances for the Italian side and scored 22 goals. He won the 2003/04 Serie A title, the 2002/03 Coppa Italia, the 2004 Supercoppa Italiana and the 2002/03 UEFA Champions League.

Tomasson worked his way through the Danish National team age grades from the under 16’s team to the under 21’s side along with making a single appearance for the Denmark B team. He made his debut for the Danish National team in 1997, he made 112 appearances for the National team and scored 51 goals. This led him to receive many individual awards such as 2 Danish player of the year awards and the 2002 FIFA World Cup bronze shoe.

After retiring in 2011, Tomasson went into retirement a year later where he worked as an assistant manager at Dutch side Excelsior. He then went on to become the head coach of the side in 2013 before moving on to Roda JC Kerkrade a year later. After a string of poor performances at Roda, Tomasson was sacked after only 5 months at the club and a win rate of 12.5%.

Jon Dahl Tomasson then had 2 assistant stints at both Vitesse Arnhem and the Danish National team before being appointed Malmö FF head coach at the start of 2020.
