Who is Örebro SK manager Axel Kjäll?

Axel Kjäll was born in Sweden on the 1st of June, 1981 and he is the current manager of Allsvenskan club Örebro SK. Kjäll previously played football as a defender for Swedish football clubs such as Örebro SK, Trelleborgs FF and BK Forward.

In 2000, Axel Kjäll joined Örebro SK where he played in defence for 4 seasons. He then joined Trelleborgs FF in 2004 where he stayed until 2008. Axel Kjäll then had a short stint at BK Forward in 2008 before retiring from football in the same year.

In 2015, Kjäll went back to his former club Örebro SK where he worked as an assistant manager to head coach Alexander Axén in the Allsvenskan.

2 years later he was appointed as the head coach of the club where he took over from Axén on the 28th of August, 2017. He led the club to an 11th placed finish in the Allsvenskan which kept the club in the first division for the following season.

The 2018 Allsvenskan season was Axel Kjäll’s first full season in charge and he led the club to a 9th placed finish in the league which was an improvement on previous years. Örebro SK also reached the quarter finals of the Svenska Cupen, losing 2-0 to Stockholm club AIK Fotboll. In July of that year, Örebro SK broke their own record for the biggest transfer fee received for a player. They received $750,000 for American defender Brendan Hines-Ike who joined Belgian side KV Kortrijk.

The following season saw Axel Kjäll lead the side to another 9th placed finish, however, they only reached the group stage of the Svenska Cupen losing out on a place in the knockout stages to Gothenburg based club: GAIS. They had a successful season despite losing one of their best players, Brendan Hines-Ike the previous summer.

This season’s Svenska Cupen has already begun, however, Örebro SK have been eliminated in the group stages after losing 1-0 to Allsvenskan club IF Elfsborg, therefore they will not be competing in the knockout stages for the remainder of this year’s tournament.
