French Road Race Championships 2019

The French National Road Race Championships 2019 is on Sunday 30th June and will see the best French cyclists fight for the right to be crowned the French road champion for one year. The winner will be awarded the symbolic French cycling jersey which is blue, white and red, just like the national flag, which can be worn in other road cycling races to show their status as national champion.

The current French champion is Anthony Roux (Team Groupama - FDJ), who won a six-man sprint finish ahead of Anthony Turgis (Team Total Direct Energy) and Julian Alaphilippe (Team Deceuninck - Quick Step). It was Roux's first French champion title.

2018’s top eight

1. Anthony Roux, Team Groupama-FDJ

2. Anthony Turgis, Team Total Direct Energy

3. Julain Alaphilippe, Team Deceuninck - Quick Step

4. Pierre Latour, Team AG2R La Mondiale

5. Guillaume Martin, Team Wanty-Groupe Gobert

6. Rudy Molard, Team Groupama-FDJ

7. Warren Barguil, Team Arkéa Samsic

8. Thomas Boudat, Team Total Direct Energy

The French favourites

Recent winners of the French national road race include multiple winner Arnaud Demare (Team Groupama - FDJ) and Arthur Vichot (Team Vital Concept - Cheap guest houses). Demare, in particular, will be a strong challenger for Roux’s title once more. Alaphilippe, who came third last year, is the number one ranked road cyclist in the world at the moment so will be hoping to get his first French national title.

The next highest ranked French cyclists are Thibaut Pinot (Team Groupama - FDJ) and Romain Bardet (Team AG2R La Mondiale) - both of which are French favourites and potential Tour de France challengers. Barguil, who came seventh last year, is also a dangerous challenger.

Elsewhere, Tony Gallopin (Team AG2R La Mondiale), Valentin Madouas (Team Groupama - FDJ), David Gaudu (Team Groupama - FDJ), Christophe Laporte (Team Cofidis, Solutions Crédits), and Bryan Coquard (Team Vital Concept - Cheap hotels), will all be hoping for a podium spot.
