Dutch National Time Trial Championships 2019

The Dutch National Time Trial Championships 2019 is a time-trial cycling race that forms part of the Dutch National Cycling Championships weekend. The race decides the best Dutch rider in this type of race. The race takes place 30th June weekend, just before the start of the Tour de France.

The current title holder is Dylan van Baarle (Team INEOS), who beat Niki Terpstra (Team Total Direct Energie) and Wilco Kelderman (Team Sunweb) to take the time-trial crown.

Van der Poel remarkably also won the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup earlier in the year before claiming his first elite road race.

The 2018’s top eight

  1. Dylan van Baarle, Team INEOS
  2. Niki Terpstra, Team Total Direct Energie
  3. Wilco Kelderman, Team Sunweb
  4. Dion Beukeboom, Team Vlasman
  5. Jos van Emden, Team LottoNL-Jumbo
  6. Pascal Eenkhoorn, Team LottoNL-Jumbo
  7. Martijn Tusveld, Team Sunweb
  8. Peter Koning, Team Aqua Blue Sport

The top Dutch contenders

In recent years, Dutch favourite Tom Dumoulin (Team Sunweb) has dominated. He won the time-trial race in 2014, 2016 and 2017. Dumoulin will not take part this year, however, after he pulled out of the Tour de France due to fitness issues.

Other winners of the time-trial race in recent years include last year’s third-placed Kelderman and the now-retired Lieuwe Westra.

Terpstra and Kelderman will once more be favourites to go one better than last year and take van Baarle’s crown. Elsewhere, Robert Gesink (Team Jumbo-Visma) came third in 2017 and will be a strong challenger, while van Emden, Steven Kruijswijk (Team Jumbo-Visma), Sebastian Langeveld (Team EF Education First) and Lars Boom (Team Roompot - Charles). Jos van Emden is a serial podium finisher and will be hoping he can finally take the crown. Wout Poels (Team INEOS) is an outside shout.
