It is usually run from the Metropolitan City of Turin in the Italian region Piedmont to finish the sprint in the same location over a length of about two hundred kilometers. This race might be the result of a bunch of sprints this year.

The Gran Piemonte, originally known as the Giro del Piemonte, has been known as the Gran Piemonte since 2009, and the first race was held in 1906. The race has been made on UCI Europe Tour since 2005 as a 1.HC event. It normally runs a few days before the most important race Giro di Lombardia.

The event wasn't run in 2007 due to sponsorship problems, however, it was back in 2008. Owing to financial difficulties the 2013 edition was postponed again.

Participating Teams

The race usually starts with around twenty teams and consists of UCI WorldTeams and UCI Professional Continental teams. There is most of the time seen the cooperation of the National team of Italy.

Competing teams: Team Jumbo-visma, Movistar Team, Team Ineos, Ntt Pro Cycling,  Astana Pro Team, Ccc Team,  Trek - Segafredo, Israel Start-up Nation,  Deceuninck - Quick Step, Bardiani-csf-faizanè And So On.

Top competitors: Nibali Vincenzo, Izagirre Ion, Aru Fabio, Fuglsang Jakob,  Hermans Ben, Betancur Carlos, Van Der Poel Mathieu,Velasco Simone, Ciccone Giulio.

Recent Champions

Egan Arley Bernal Gómez is a Colombian cycle rider, who wins the 103rd edition of the Gran Piemonte 2019, and currently rides for the Team Ineos of UCI WorldTeam. He also won the 106th edition of Tour de France in 2019, becoming the race's first Latin American champion.

Others are Sonny Colbrelli (Team Bahrain–Merida) 2018, Fabio Aru (Team Astana) 2017, Giacomo Nizzolo (Italian national selection) 2016, Jan Bakelants (Team AG2R La Mondiale) 2015.

This year the route has been designed with a combination of sprints and climbs, mountainous terrain, and rolling roads. Most of the top riders are hoping that this race will become a bit complicated after a long break from the rides due to the COVID-19 epidemic. However, the final results are very close and disclosed after the ride is over.
