Who will win the 2019-20 Polish Ekstraklasa?

In the 2018-19 Polish Ekstraklasa, after the end of the regular season, the top 8 teams would go into the Championship round where each team would play each other once more to determine the title winners. Last season, Piast Gliwice were the champions of the Polish Ekstraklasa finishing first on 72 points after a dominant season.

After winning last year’s Polish Ekstraklasa, Piast Gliwice will hope they can have another successful season under manager Waldemar Fornalik. Next season they will also have the chance to qualify for the Champions League as they secured qualification to the Champions League first qualifying round after finishing first overall in the league.

If Piast Gliwice does manage to qualify for European football next season, it’ll be the first time ever in their history after only ever reaching the second qualifying round of the Europa League. In both of these qualifying rounds, they lost to Qarabag FK and IFK Goteborg in the 2013-14 season and the 2016-17 season respectively.

Legia Warsaw had a disappointing season for their standards last year finishing second in the league on 68 points under interim manager Aleksandar Vukovic. They also only managed to reach the quarterfinals of the Polish cup and didn't manage to make it through the Champions League qualifying rounds or the Europa League qualifying rounds. Next season, however, they’ll be hoping to go one better and win the Polish Ekstraklasa and have another good season with the hope of qualifying for the Europa League.

Third-placed 2018-19 Ekstraklasa team Lechia Gdansk finished on 67 points and therefore qualified for the Europa League second qualifying round as they won the Polish Cup. This was a very successful season for the club under manager Piotr Stokowiec and will hope they can replicate this success in the 2019-20 season.

KS Cracovia finished last season in fourth place on 57 points, although this was 10 points behind third-placed Lechia Gdansk, they will have plenty of positives to look on as they look forward to a title push in the 2019-20 season under manager Michal Probiertz. Although finishing eighth in the 2018-19 season, Lech Poznan are a very good club who have done well in the UEFA Europa League registering 2 appearances in the round of 32 in 2009 and 2011. You shouldn’t bet against them mounting a serious title push next season if they can recruit well in the summer under manager Dariusz Zuraw and Portuguese captain Pedro Tiba.
