Who is Scunthorpe United FC manager Paul Hurst?

Paul Hurst is the current manager of Scunthorpe United after being in the job since May 2019. Hurst was born on 25 September 1974 in Sheffield. Paul Hurst was originally a footballer making appearances at left back for clubs around England such as Rotherham United and Burton Albion.

Hurst started his career at Rotherham United in 1993 where he made 438 competitive appearances for the club scoring 13 goals across his 15 year stint at the club. In 2008, Hurst was loaned out to Burton Albion where he made only 17 appearances failing to score a goal as he retired at the end of the season. As a player, Hurst won the 1995-96 Football League Trophy along with gaining promotion from the 1999-00 Football League Third Division and then promotion from the Second Division the following season.

After his retirement, Paul Hurst became the joint manager of Ilkeston Town with Rob Scott in 2009. Whilst at the club, the two took Ilkeston Town to the play-off final where they beat Nantwich Town 2-1 to gain promotion to the Conference North. The following season, both managers left to join Boston United again as joint managers. They gained promotion to the Conference North with Boston United in their opening season at the club after winning the playoff final. They completed a historic treble for the club in the opening season as they also won the Lincolnshire Senior Shield and the Northern Premier League Challenge Cup that year.

Paul Hurst and Rob Scott both then moved to Grimsby Town again as joint managers in 2011 before Scott left in 2013 leaving Hurst as the only manager at the club. Paul Hurst then had stints at Shrewsbury Town and Ipswich Town before being sacked from the latter club in October 2018. Hurst has an impressive list of honours to his name including the Lincolnshire Senior Cup in the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons along with being FA Trophy runner up in 2012-13 and 2015-16 while at Grimsby Town. He also won the National League play-offs in the 2015-16 season at Grimsby along with the EFL Trophy runner up at Shrewsbury Town in the 2017-18 season.

In May 2019, Hurst was appointed as manager of Scunthorpe United replacing the outgoing Andy Dawson. The fans will be hoping Hurst can take the club to another level and push for promotion back into the EFL League One in the 2019-20 season.
