Who is Southampton's manager?

Ralph Hasenhüttl is the current Southampton manager after replacing the previous manager Mark Hughes in December 2018 and therefore becoming the first ever Austrian manager in the Premier League. Ralph Hasenhüttl was born in Graz, Austria on 9 August 1967.

Ralph Hasenhüttl had a long playing career where he made 450 competitive appearances and scored 119 goals across a 19 year career. He played for Austrian and German clubs such as GAK, Austria Wien, Austria Salzburg, Mechelen, Lierse, 1. FC Köln, SpVgg Greuther Fürth and Bayern Munich’s reserve team. He usually played as a centre forward but also played as a striker on many occasions. He’s also made 8 appearances for the Austrian National team and scored 3 goals in the process.

After retiring from football, Ralph Hasenhüttl took 3 years away from football before joining SpVgg Unterhaching as their new manager in 2007. He lasted 3 years at the club before joining VfR Aalen in 2010 where he won his first managerial honour as he gained promotion from the 3. Liga in the 2011-12 season. Hasenhüttl joined Ingolstadt 04 in October 2014 where he stayed for two seasons finishing 10th and then 1st in the 2. Bundesliga. Hasenhüttl then joined RB Leipzig for 2 seasons before terminating his contract due to a disagreement with the club.

On the 5th of December 2018, Ralph Hasenhüttl was appointed as the new permanent manager of Southampton replacing the previous manager Mark Hughes.
