Who is Blackpool FC manager Simon Grayson?

Simon Grayson is the newly appointed manager of Blackpool FC after being appointed by the club in July 2019. Grayson was born in Ripon, England on 16 December 1969. Before going into management, Simon Grayson was a footballer playing for clubs around England such as Aston Villa, Leicester City and Leeds United.

Simon Grayson started out in the Leeds United academy in 1984 before breaking into the first team in 1988. Between the years of 1988 and 2006, Grayson played for Leeds United, Leicester City, Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday on loan, Stockport County on loan, Notts County on loan, Bradford City on loan and Blackpool. Over the course of his career, Simon Grayson made 435 competitive appearances scoring only 12 goals from defence. He also won the 2003-04 Football League Trophy whilst at Blackpool and the 1997 League Cup at Leicester City.

In 2005, Simon Grayson took more of a managerial position at Blackpool whilst he was still playing. After managing the reserve squad for a season, Grayson was appointed caretaker manager before being appointed as the full time manager where he worked in the role until 2008. Leeds United approached Grayson to be their new manager in 2008 as he stayed at the club for 4 years and in the 2009-10 season, Leeds United finished second and therefore gained automatic promotion.

In February 2012, Grayson was appointed as the new Huddersfield Town manager on a 3 and a half year contract after being sacked from Leeds United. He only managed a season at the club before leaving to join Preston North End in the February of the following year where he managed to keep the club safe from relegation in his opening season. Simon Grayson joined newly relegated side Sunderland and Bradford City from 2017 to 2018 as he replaced David Moyes and Stuart McCall respectively. He failed to impress at either club as he was sacked from Sunderland and left Bradford City.

In July 2019, Grayson was appointed as the Blackpool FC manager on a 2 year contract after previous manager Terry McPhillips resigned. The Blackpool fans will hope Grayson can impose his style of football in the upcoming season, his experience should help Blackpool to a successful season next year. The club will want to build on their 10th place finish last year as they look to push for a playoff place.
