Carlos Corberán – WBA

The management of West Bromwich Albion has decided to terminate the contract of manager Steve Bruce due to poor results. The experienced coach took over the club from Hawthorns eight months ago, but he failed to get it back on track. In that period, he won only eight victories and not only failed to return the club to the Premier League, but this season starter very poorly and the team was in the relegation zone in the Championship. The team was in 22nd place in the table, which is the lowest position in the last 20 years for this famous English club.

This position was given to a young yet experienced manager who already has experience working under pressure in EFL Championship, the Spaniard Carlos Corberán.

Corberán was manager of Huddersfield Town for 2 years and even reached the playoffs last season, but his team was defeated by Nottingham Forest. Then he joined the Greek giant Olympiacos but he didn’t start this season well and he was dismissed from there.

Ron Gourlay, West Brom's chief executive, said: “Carlos is a coach of the highest quality and I am delighted to welcome him to the club. Carlos was in our thoughts from the very beginning of the recruitment process and our admiration of his qualities only grew upon meeting him. "He is a confident, enthusiastic, and detailed coach who is as determined as I am to bring success to The Hawthorns. We share a belief that performances and results will improve under his guidance and that significant time remains in the season for us to mount a serious assault on the Championship league table.”

Corberán gave up his playing career as goalkeeper even though he was still very young and focused only on his managerial career. His first big appointment was in the Villareal’s coaching stuff. He was assistant manager to Manuel Pellegrini and Valverde and besides some other teams it’s important to know that he was assistant manager to Bielsa in Leeds United so it is obvious that he got to learn about this job from some of the best managers of this time.

Even though he resigned as a manager of Huddersfield Town he said that it is his dream to be manager in this league and to win a promotion to the Premier League. Corberán said: “My job was not finished because when you are very close or you are at Wembley, you feel like you have 90 minutes to achieve something very important. “When we finished the game, my feeling was clear, I want to come back here again and I want to achieve. I feel like I didn’t finish my job here in England because it was a dream to put a team from the Championship into the Premier League.”

Carlos Corberán has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract at The Hawthorns.
