Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp Confirms Reds Won’t Be Going After Gareth Bale This Summer

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has ruled out a move for Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale, insisting he’s in charge of a long-term project at Anfield and wants to build a team, as opposed to bringing individuals in.

Bale is on the fringes at Real and has presumably fallen out with manager Zinedine Zidane, but there aren’t that many suitors for the 30-year-old given his history with injuries, his wages, and his age.

It’s quite safe to assume that the Welshman has no future with Los Blancos but there isn’t one for him at Anfield either, with Klopp having recently revealed that the Reds are not interested.

“Bale is a Real Madrid player and if he leaves it will be outstandingly expensive and big wages,” the German tactician told Sky Sports after watching his side draw 2-2 with Sporting CP in a New York pre-season friendly on Wednesday.

“He is an outstanding player, I like him a lot but it is not about him. You have to create a team. A team is not a collection of the best individual players, they have to work together.”

Klopp led his team to Champions League glory earlier this year, going one better following a heartbreaking defeat in the 2018 final by Bale and Madrid. The former Dortmund coach will look to defend the coveted trophy next season but will also attempt to topple Manchester City in the Premier League after going neck-in-neck with Pep Guardiola’s side for the entirety of last term and finishing just one point below.

City remain the favourites for the league title after winning it for two consecutive years and football fans looking to place bets on outcomes for next season could get the Best UK Betting Offers For New & Existing Customers at Freebets.com.

The defending champions are 1/2 to retain their crown at the end of the 2019/20 season with Bet365 while Liverpool are 13/5 with Betvictor. Tottenham Hotspur, who faced Liverpool in the UCL final last season, have odds of 16/1 attached at William Hill, while their London counterparts Chelsea are 25/1 with Betfair.

City are also favoured to win the Champions League next season, with Ladbrokes offering odds of 4/1 on the 2018/19 Premier League winners conquering Europe next season. Barcelona’s attack will boast a freshly acquired Antoine Griezmann next term and Bet365 has them at 11/2 to best all chasers in the competition. The Reds, meanwhile are 7/1 with William Hill.

Despite Klopp’s intention to keep molding a team, the manager did not rule out making other signings and hinted that there could be two or three new faces in the squad next season. “Sometimes you have to calm the situation down, pay your bills, have a normal life and live in the house before you build a new one,” he added.

The Reds will play two more friendlies - against Napoli and Lyon - before focusing their attention on their Community Shield clash against City set for August 4.

As for Bale, the Welsh attacker has reportedly rejected a lucrative offer from a Chinese club and it is believed that his main aim is staying with Madrid, although a move to China is still likely to happen.
